What is Mosaic: Transplant Education and Support?

Mosaic: Transplant Education and Support is a website that can help you prepare for and recover from your transplant. For instance, it includes coping tips and methods for managing stress, including audio-recorded stress management practices. It also includes helpful information to help you manage some of the challenges of transplant. For instance, Mosaic includes tips for talking with your healthcare team and a list of questions you can ask. There are many other resources you may find helpful. Be sure to explore the different Mosaic sections.

Who Developed Mosaic?

This program was developed by experienced health care professionals and research scientists, led by Dr. Christine Rini at Northwestern University (Chicago, IL, U.S.A.), Dr. Kristi Graves at Georgetown University (Washington, DC, U.S.A.), and Dr. Betina Yanez at Northwestern University. The Mosaic program is a collaboration between these researchers, with assistance from other researchers, experts in web-based health programs, experts in stem cell transplantation, and a team of software engineers and designers.

This program was developed with funding by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) (Grant Number R01CA223963).

No, there is no charge for you to access Mosaic.

Does Using Mosaic Mean I Don’t Need to Talk to My Doctor?

Information provided in Mosaic is not meant to be a substitute for seeking medical care. You should seek help from your regular healthcare provider if:

  • You are having physical symptoms such as a fever, pain, difficulty thinking, fatigue, or other symptoms that might mean you need medical care
  • You feel very down, discouraged, depressed or very anxious
  • You have other symptoms that concern you.

Will Mosaic Keep My Personal Information Safe?

Any information you give us will be used to help us understand who is using the program and how beneficial people have found it.

We are legally obligated to protect the privacy of your personal information. Please see our Privacy Policy for more information.

The Types Of Information We Collect:

Mosaic does not collect or share any Protected Health Information—that is, health information that can be linked to you. Information like your address and your first and last name are examples of Protected Health Information.

One exception is that we collect your email address in case you forget your password. Your email address is stored securely and separately from any other information you provide to us in a study or as you use Mosaic.

We also collect information about how you use Mosaic. It includes things like how often you use Mosaic, click patterns on the computer or device you use to access Mosaic, and information you choose to enter into Mosaic . This information helps us understand ways we can make Mosaic better. We call this “de-identified” information because it is either impossible or very difficult to link to a specific person.

The main reasons we collect this information (for instance, your email address) are to make it easier for you to use Mosaic and to advance research on how to help people who are having a transplant. Research studies and academic institutions are required to take a number of steps to make sure your personal information is protected from misuse, loss, unauthorized access, or disclosure. When you use Mosaic as part of a study, these steps are described in your consent document. If you have any questions about how your information and identify are protected, please contact the principal investigator or other study contact listed on your consent document.
